This song is written to honor the native peoples of the Mount Shasta and southern Oregon area where I have spent much time. There is very little written or known about the peoples who called that spectacular terrain home for thousands of years. It is a profoundly moving and beautiful place.
As part of the genocide of native peoples by the American government, the Ka'hosadi were systematically and brutally murdered by American militia and gold seekers. No apology or reparations have been offered to the surviving families by the American government. There has been no acknowledgement of the genocide.
